Cfp: panel "Migration and migrants in Europe: prospects and challenges" at the UACES 2010 Conference

(posted on H-Net Migration on December 10th 2009)

Dear colleagues,

I am preparing a panel for the UACES Annual Conference "Exchanging Ideas
on Europe" that will take place at the College of Europe in Bruges
(Belgium) on 6-
8 September 2010
(http://www.uaces.org/events/conferences/bruges/).

The topic of the session is "Migration and migrants in Europe: prospects
and challenges". This session will aim at exploring the broader
implications of migration for European societies. Papers in this session
might address questions such as: how does the increasing migration
affect labour markets in both receiving and sending countries? What
"new" kinds of migration such as return or trans-national movements can
be observed? What new migration destinations have emerged in Europe
recently? How have responses in terms of regulatory policies been
adjusted? How do migrants build and get involved in social networks
within and across receiving countries as well as between sending and
receiving countries? How has the dynamics of dominant motivations for
migration (work, study, family) been developing? The papers comparing
different categories of migrants and/or different countries are
especially welcome.

If some of you are interested in attending this conference and
presenting theoretical considerations and/or case studies related to
this theme, please contact me as soon as possible. An abstract of up to
200 words would be needed from each presenter, until 15 January 2009 at
the latest.

Sincerely
Demyan Belyaev
